Introduction to Leeds Indoor Rowing Training
Most gyms possess several Concept2 indoor rowing machines and a large number of people have machines at home.
These rowing machines were originally designed as a training tool for water based rowers, either for physiological testing/monitoring or to enable “dry” training when water based work was not possible. However, rowing machines are now extremely prevalent in gyms and sports centres as CV equipment. Not only has there been this increased use of rowing machines away from rowing clubs, indoor rowing has now become a competitive sport in its own right, with regional, national and world championships.
My own experience in gyms is that very few people use the rowing machines with the correct technique or setting. At Leeds Indoor Rowing the main aim is to coach our clients into a suitable rowing rhythm and posture and also create an exercise programme engineered around the specific goals of each individual.
